Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2023!

The beer world can be fickle sometimes, and fashions come and go with the seasons (I feel like I’m seeing black IPAs out again for the first time in several years, for example. I think we all thought they’d peaked in 2015, right?) but some constants still remain, thank goodness. As if further proof were needed that quality will always shine and some flavours just work no matter what happens around them, last week the Great British Beer Festival Winter crowned our 1872 Porter the Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2023 for a record fourth time.

Grateful

We’re always delighted to hear of positive responses to our beers, but this particular award is very dear to our hearts. We’re so proud of 1872 Porter having won this award three times previously (and of course having once been Champion Beer of Britain), we’re chuffed to bits to be told we’re upholding the high standard set by legendary Northern brewer and Elland founder Dave Sanders who originally created the recipe. Current brewhouse wizard Rob Thomas (pictured) is delighted to have continued the tradition is style, and we look forward to getting tastes to all of you very soon. Bottles now available in the webshop!
